In light of the Danish Government’s focus on sustainability, ambitious climate action as well as the current energy crises, the High Commissioner’s Office in the Faroe Islands will in 2023 strive to promote UN SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action).

UN SDG no. 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

This goal focuses on efficient management of our shared natural resources, and the way in which we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, as well as on encouraging industries, companies and consumers to reuse and reduce their waste.

The High Commissioner in the Faroe Islands wants to contribute to ensuring responsible consumption and production. Concretely the High Commissioner’s Office will in 2023 work towards:

  • Promoting sustainable purchasing practices at the High Commissioner’s Office through a heightened focus on reusable products or products that are the result of reuse and recycling.
  • Reduce our consumption of paper, printer toner and office consumables
  • Reduce food waste.
  • Draft and implement a plan of action for the area, which can extend beyond 2023, and which can contribute to ensuring continuous adjustment of the actions taken by the High Commissioner’s Office.

UN SDG no. 13 – Climate Action

This goal focuses on limiting the rise in average global temperature to two degrees above pre-industrial levels, as well as on strengthening resilience and climate adaptation in vulnerable regions.

The High Commissioner’s Office in the Faroe Islands wants to look after our climate and reduce climate change.  The High Commissioner’s Office will in 2023:

  • Replace the High Commissioner’s service vehicle with a zero emissions vehicle.
  • Roll out an internal behaviour campaign to raise awareness among our staff of energy consumption.
  • Train one of our staff as ‘sustainability agent’.
  • Draft and implement a plan of action for our climate efforts, which can extend beyond 2023, and which can contribute to ensuring continuous adjustment of the actions taken by the High Commissioner’s Office.
