Identification requirements

In order to receive a NemID, you need to be able to prove your identity and be able to answer control questions or be accompanied with an eyewitness.

Identification

You need to be able to show one of the following types of valid (not expired) identification documents with photo:

  • Passport
  • Driver’s license

If a CPR number or P number (a Faroese civil registration number) does not appear with the chosen type of identification with photo, you must also bring a form of identification that includes either a CPR number or a P number. This could be one of the following types of identification documents:

  • P number certificate
  • The latest annual tax return from TAKS
  • Letter issuing a P number
  • Letter issuing a CPR number

If you are not in possession of a form of identification with photo, you can identify yourself with one of the following types of identification:

  • Name certificate
  • Certificate of residence
  • P number certificate
  • The most recent annual tax return from TAKS
  • Documentation of payment of public service (no more than three months old)
  • Resident permit issued in Denmark
  • Letter issuing a P number
  • Letter issuing a CPR number

Note that one of these types of identification must be a name certificate or certificate of residence.

Furthermore, at least one of the types of identification must include information about your CPR number or P number

Control questions or eyewitness validation

In addition to valid identification documents, you also need to be able to answer control questions or be accompanied by an eyewitness.

If you choose to answer control questions, you must be able to answer two of three control questions correctly. If you answer two questions incorrectly, you receive an additional question. The control questions take the LFY and CPR registry as their point of departure.

If you do not wish to answer the control questions, or if you have not lived long enough in Denmark or the Faroe Islands, you can instead choose to take an eyewitness with you to the High Commission. The eyewitness must make a sworn statement under criminal liability, in which the witness confirms your identity as the person who wishes to be issued with a NemID. If the eyewitness has a NemID, he or she must sign their sworn statement with their NemID.
